Over the years, VIZIO has gained a lot of popularity with its line of low-cost HDTVs. The company has been hoping to see lightning strike twice, by slowly leaking into the PC market. Now, it’s wasting no time adding something with Windows 8 into the lineup, announcing the new 11.6-inch Tablet PC.
We can’t imagine that VIZIO will release the product under the name “11.6-inch Tablet PC.” For now, however, it doesn’t have an official name, pricing, or an actual release date. However, the company has said plenty about the specs we can expect to see when the handheld hits shelves.
The most important is that this is a Windows 8 device, designed to deliver that desktop experience in a portable package. Another important feature on the Tablet PC is full 1080p HD, which means there’s a hearty 1920-by-1080 resolution on that touchscreen. That’s great for the occasional movie or even for graphics work and other high-def needs. It also has support for 10-finger multitouch gestures and expansive 64GB on-board SSD storage, as well as AMD’s Z-60 APU processor with Radeon HD graphics for any type of work tasks, even when HD photos and video are included in that daily grind.
While 11.6 inches may seem a little large for a tablet, this thing is built to travel. The Tablet PC measures a mere 0.4 inches thick, with a weight of 1.8 pounds. It also has a machined aluminum frame and soft-touch rear panel, which is stylish and allows users to get a comfortable grip on the device.
Other features include an SRS Premium Sound HD audio system with DTS technology and a micro-HDMI output for connecting the tablet to an HDTV or projector. The unit also comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Signature, which includes Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, Skydrive, and Windows Defender security features.
