Most manufacturers offer a variety of options, subwoofers, as well as rigging and mounting solutions for their products. Because of the large number of such options it is impossible to include them in the roundup format. Please check the manufacturers website for more information on these products.
In a smart system, a collection of technologies manages the speaker’s settings, increasing performance.

Combining DSP, amplification, networking, status monitoring and a host of related individual technological elements has given birth to what can be called “Relatively Smart Loudspeaker Systems “or speakers with an undergraduate BS degree.” These products make up the majority of the available smart speaker products on the market and can provide substantial performance improvements and new user options when properly deployed.
However, there is another level of “smartness” just now being fully realized in a few products, with many more just over the horizon. These would be, to continue our analogy, loudspeakers with a Ph.D. What gives them this advanced machine intelligence capability? Such systems are to a degree “self-aware/self-adjusting.” That is they know their position in an array, for example, and are able to establish communication with other loudspeaker elements. They also use complex algorithms and rules essentially to a large degree to “set their own knobs” for what is defined as an optimal operating condition.
At its core, “smartness” is the integration of electronics. Specifically, this includes digitally controlled and based amplification, digital signal processing (DSP), potentially remote control and setup, network interfaces and the optimization of all these technologies to the specific loudspeaker system. Adding these capabilities takes the loudspeaker from simply being an efficient passive electroacoustic transducer to something considerably more advanced.
One Goal, Many Paths
As you explore this product category you will quickly recognise that there are two distinct approaches to creating smart speaker systems. One places everything into the enclosure and the other places all the electronics into a separate but product-specific rack mount box with DSP, amplification and everything else incorporated.
