The telephony software developer expands its unified communications offerings by adding VocalCloud’s cloud-based VoIP services and solutions.

Developer of Asterisk open-source telephony software Digium Inc. has acquired cloud-based VoIP innovator VocalCloud. With the acquisition is formed Digium Cloud Services.
In response to a growing demand among SBMs for a hosted solution, Digium launched Switchvox Cloud in partnership with VocalCloud earlier this year. Immediate success of the offering resulted in the two organizations electing to join forces. Acquiring VocalCloud’s talent and infrastructure enables Digium to deliver its Switchvox business phone system to SMBs through the new subsidiary, while managing the entire offering, end to end.
Through Digium Cloud Services, the company will offer Switchvox Cloud, a hosted version of its Switchvox business phone system. It will also deliver forthcoming cloud-based unified communications (UC) products and services.
“Digium’s acquisition of VocalCloud is part of a focused strategy to position the company within the rapidly growing UC as a Service market,” says Digium CEO Danny Windham. “Digium Cloud Services provides the necessary foundation and infrastructure to offer new cloud-based products and services for SMBs, as well as users of the Asterisk open source project. In fact, new developments are already underway.”
Digium has ensured its offerings are channel-centric and available through its network of partners. Given the product’s architecture, Switchvox can be delivered as a hosted or premises-based solution, and customers’ systems can be migrated from one to the other.
