D-Link is looking to organize your network. Thank goodness someone wants to! As the latest entry in D-Link’s EasySmart portfolio, the new DGS-1100-08P is designed to do just that. The hook on the product is that it’s the first EasySmart switch to deliver Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. The end result boasts easy IP surveillance, VoIP phone, and access point deployment.
This compact box has eight 10/100/1000 BASE-T Ethernet ports and a power budget of 64 watts. The latter makes sure there’s always enough juice for IP cameras and other powered devices. It also has D-Link’s SmartConsole Utility and a web-based management interface for those without any sort of advanced network training. That same interface also provides one spot where users can control and monitor tidbits such as priority assignments, power threshold limits, and actual PoE power usage.
Other features include Auto Surveillance VLAN, loopback detection, cable diagnostics, storm control, IGMP snooping, and more.
“Offering a minimal price increase from an unmanaged PoE switch, D-Link’s latest DGS-1100-08P EasySmart switch provides a cost-effective solution with added networking and PoE features and functionalities,” says Steven Olen, D-Link’s director of product marketing. “Unlike an unmanaged switch, the DGS-1100-08P offers smarter management of the PoE power budget, power saving features, and the ability to reboot IP cameras or other PoE devices remotely. In addition, expanded management functionality and additional tools enable faster installation, easier maintenance, and better visibility into network health—all contributing to a smarter network overall.”
D-Link is selling the DGS-1100-08P now, with an MSRP of $259.99.
