With Windows 8 now here, it’s time to enjoy it. Acer is willing to oblige, with plenty of newly announced goodies to help you get your Windows 8 on.
Acer America just debuted a pair of Win 8 all-in-one desktop PCs, the Acer Aspire 7600U and 5600U Series. Both have a funky, floating design, with an edge-to-edge display and a profile of less than 1.4 inches. The semi-transparent enclosure packs in a hard drive, an optical drive and a screen, while matching the look of the wireless keyboard and the mouse.
The big difference is that the Aspire 5600U comes packing a 23-inch screen, with the 7600U getting a 27-incher. Both models have a full 1080p HD image for movies, games, photos and whatever else may call for a stunning image. It’s actually pretty enough to put on a wall, and Acer has included the VESA mount kit to make that an option.
Both machines can almost lie flat, too, reclining the display up to an 80-degree angle. Acer says that 10-point capacitive touch technology is also an option, with improved gesture recognition.
Besides the 27-inch touchscreen, the 7600U has up to an Intel Core i5 3210M processor (3M cache, 3.1GHz), 8GB of memory, discrete NVIDIA GT640M graphics, a combo Blu-ray/optical drive and four USB 2.0 ports. The 23-inch 5600U drops the number of USB ports to three and includes an optical drive, making the Blu-ray player an option. Other features on both include Real Sound Lab’s CONEQ sound technology, 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth support, an HDMI input and an HDMI output.
“Our newest AIOs offer consumers a no-compromise solution for those wanting the power of a desktop in a sleek and elegant chassis,” said Frank Chang, director of desktop product management for Acer America. “The blend of Windows 8, capacitive touch technology, instant resume functionality and fast processing deliver a superb computing experience, making it an ideal entertainment hub for college dorms or an entire household.”
The Acer Aspire 7600U Series will arrive in late November, with the 27-inch touch display, discrete graphics, the combo Blu-ray player/optical drive, the 10-point capacitive touch technology, and a starting price of $1,899. The Acer Aspire 5600U Series is available now, with the 23-inch display and an optical drive. Acer says that this unit will start at $1,149 for the 10-point capacitive touch technology and $999.99 if you can go without.
